Culture Clash
Having had the opportunity to live in four different countries, I have experienced first-hand the "culture shock" that people from the so-called third world are subjected to when they find themselves immersed in so-called first world societies. The feelings of uncertainty, confusion, or anxiety that people may experience when moving to a new country or experiencing a new culture or surroundings.
In this series, I confront cultural stereotypes and aspirational models, as constitutive elements of hybrid subjectivities, marked by emigration and uprooting.
In these works, the figure, objects and space form a parallel and dystopian orbit. I'm recreating a world where the subject must choose between necessity and illusion.
